radhe movie release date: Salman Khan’s ‘Radhe’ out digitally but will it match his previous Eid box-office hits?

Salman Khan is back in action. And true to his a-release-on-Eid style, the Bollywood star returns with ‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’ as a festival release.

But, unlike Khan’s previous Eid outings which were all theatre releases, ‘Radhe…’ makes de its debut on streaming platform ZEE5 and pay-per-view service ZeePlex on May 13.

Eid releases have proved to be lucky for the 55-year-old in the past, and have witnessed huge box-office success. This year the plot has taken a twist with’Radhe…’ having to miss out on the silver screen action due to the Covid-19 crisis in the country and opted for a digital release instead after being delayed by a year following the 2020 lockdowns.

Earlier this year, Khan’s fans had high hopes of catching the film on the silver screen as the country had started to allow opening of activities in phases. In 2019, ‘Bharat’ co-starring Katrina Kaif and Disha Patani was released on Eid, as the ritual goes, which earned over Rs 190 crores at the box office in India, according to data provided by Box Office India.

The 2015 Eid release, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, directed by Kabir Khan and co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan remains one of his highest-grossing movies. The action drama , collected over Rs 310 crore at the box office, followed by ‘Sultan’ in 2016 which also entered the Rs 300 crore club.

In 2014, the star gave another hit at the box office after a year without any release. The action drama film ‘Kick’ by director Sajid Nadiadwala bagged over Rs 210 crore in India, successfully becoming yet another blockbuster in the Rs 200 crore club at the box office.

Other Eid hits that minted gold at the box-office and were the first entrants in the Rs 100 crore club include’Tubelight’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Bodyguard’, ‘Dabangg’ & ‘Race 3’.

Will Salman Khan’s Eid magic work with ‘Radhe…’? A week on, and we will get to know.
