The ODI side has had quite a shake-up: While Kusal Perera is set to captain the side, Kusal Mendis was recalled and made vice-captain, and former captain Dimuth Karunaratne has been dropped. Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal were other veterans who failed to make the squad.
There were several other changes – fast-bowler Chamika Karunaratne and batsman Shiran Fernando earned their maiden limited-overs call-ups, while Binura Fernando and Asith Fernando also made the grade, with the selectors presumably keeping an eye on the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
Danushka Gunathilaka, Ashen Bandara and Wanindu Hasaranga all retained their place after impressive performances in the tour of the Caribbean in March.
